Keeping Up With Randa

JAN 2011 -- This is my second year on the Ontario Provincial Ski Team. Being on this team requires a lot of dedication and hard work. My schedule is never-ending, the on-snow training and racing takes pace from August to April and the other months consists of dry land and the gym. This summer I travelled to New Zealand to ski at Mt Hutt for the first time, the flight was unbearably long but I made it. The training was awesome for the most part, we did have a lot of weather days when we could ski. There was even an earthquake one day that i'm sure you heard about, it woke us all up and everything was shaking but the mountain was fine so we ended up skiing that afternoon!! After a month of skiing down under, some of the team took a nice relaxing trip to the Fiji Islands. It was so fun, I got to surf and tan (mostly burn haha) and hang with my teammates off-snow and I hope I can do it again sometime! In October we travelled to Austria for three weeks. We started out journey in Stubai then ventured on to Solden to watch the Men's World Cup Giant Slalom Race. We were planning on training there for the two weeks after that but it actually snowed too much and the glacier ended up being closed for safety reasons. So off we went on a twelve hour drive to Holland to try some indoor skiing, probably one of the strangest things ever. It smells just like a hockey arena and its freezing but the training is awesome! Now race season has started and my season is going great so far. I had top 20 finishes at a Nor Am Cup in Sunday River. Also had my first podium this year, a second place in Slalom at Bromont, Quebec. Can't wait to see how this season fairs out, I'm really confident and having tons of fun! I want to give a big thanks to everybody, my family, friends and community because without you I wouldn't be able to live my dream! Thanks!!
